The Dayton Journalism Summit is our new, annual event: two days of free workshops and panel discussions, where we share key reporting tools with the community and discuss the state of journalism in the Midwest with leading experts. Attendance is free, and free underground parking is available on site at the library.
Day one — Journalism training workshops
Four 90-minute, hands-on workshops (spaces are limited):
- Media Literacy
- Photojournalism
- Audio Journalism
- Pitching Stories & News Writing
Day two — Panel discussions
A full day of conversations on the opportunities and challenges facing local journalism, held in the library’s Eichelberger Forum:

- How can journalism better incorporate young people?
- How can journalists better engage with their communities?
- The future of local & regional journalism
Each panel runs about an hour and is followed by audience Q&A. Past panelists have included editors, educators, and reporters from Sinclair Community College’s Clarion, WYSO, the Dayton Daily News, and community storytelling organizations across the region.
